What accessories to wear with a Black Suit

A black suit is a classic and elegant canvas to work with, and we have researched the accessories that go well to enhance a black suit. We have created a guide for the perfect accessories to wear with a black suit.

We’ll be looking at the best way of mixing things up to ensure you have the best look, whether you want to go out looking subtle, standing out or to look on point, then you have come to the right place!

So, let’s get started.....

The Shirt for the black suit.

We have three areas to provide different options that work well. The three areas are the subtle effect, stand out effect and the on point look.

Let’s explore the colours that we feel that work for each area.

  1. The Subtle Effect: For the occasion where you want to look outstanding, however don’t want to take the lime light, we have three options that work really well. The first option is a black shirt on a black tie, it goes well! The second option is a purple shirt, it is simple however fits well. A firm favorite is an olive green or a light pastel green shirt, it looks great on a black suit and provides that subtle look.
  2. The Stand Out Effect:  On occasions where you want to stand out and be noticed, we have a couple of good options that will make people look twice! The first shirt that would work well is a pastel blue shirt, it goes really well with a black suit. The second shirt colour is a bit old skool, more 90’s but we feel it definitely deserves a chance, it’s an orange shirt, yes orange! Please make sure you try the shirt on, as a pastel orange may fit quite well depending on the suit, however it will look great and provide the stand out effect!
  3. The On Point Effect:  When your look is perfect; it is of course on point! It is where you don’t need to stand out as your suit and accessories are outstanding! With this, we have two shirts that go well here. The first shirt is a white shirt, however do try to wear a black tie with the white shirt. It is elegant and looks great. The second shirt is a grey shirt, it looks great on with a black suit.

The Tie for the black suit.

We have a few ties in mind that we are going to suggest for the subtle, stand out and on point effects, however do try other tie colours, if you want to run a tie colour past us, then get in touch, out contact details are the bottom of this page!

So, let’s explore the colours that we feel that work for each of our three areas.

  1. The Subtle Effect: Want to take the lime light without making the event all about you, then we have two ties that look fantastic on a black suit however are subtle. The first one is a grey tie; it looks fab on a black suit and provides that elegant look (we do like a knitted grey tie). The second option is a brown tie, once you try it on, you will know what we are suggesting a brown tie, its subtle but powerful.
  2. The Stand Out Effect: We have a couple bold ties, that fit the stand out look quite well. The first one is a red tie. It looks great on a black suit. The second tie that works perfectly is a green tie, it goes really well on a black suit, although we would suggest a white shirt.
  3. The On Point Effect:  For the on point look, we have the perfect tie that goes really well. It is a black tie and white shirt on a black suit. It’s just perfect… also wear a white pocket square! The second option is a blue tie, it goes really well with a black suit.

The Shoes to go with a Black Suit.

The shoes are a vital aspect to ensure your look is perfect, you could have a great suit, tie and shirt however if the shoes do not match, it could affect your whole look. Therefore, we only have one colour that will fit in the subtle, stand out and on point effect, that’s a black pair of shoes. With a black suit, black shoes are a must!

The Pocket Square that goes with a Black Suit.

A pocket square can automatically transform a look and can get you noticed, so many times we see an amazing suit, great shirt and the perfect tie... however no pocket square to give the suit that something extra to turn heads, therefore we have detailed the perfect colour pocket squares that look great on a black suit.

Let’s explore the colours that we feel that work for each area.

  1. The Subtle Effect: Here we have two pocket squares that work great. The first one is a pastel blue, it’s not too loud, however goes with a black suit really well. The second option is a grey pocket square, try to avoid a glossy grey and try a matt grey pocket square on a black suit, it will go perfectly for that subtle look.
  2. The Stand Out Effect: When you want to stand out to be noticed, we also have two pocket squares fit well here. The first pocket square is a green pocket square, it is one of our favourites and will provide your suit with that something extra to ensure you stand out. The second pocket square we suggest is a red pocket square. It will give you a great look and definitely will help you to standout.
  3. The On Point Effect:  For the on point look we have one pocket square that fits this category perfectly. It is white pocket square; on a black suit. It looks quite perfect and gives you a perfect look. Check it out….
